Dog ownership comes at a cost. In order to properly care for a dog, to comply with certain local laws (looking at your Montréal), you need to get the proper pet equipment. Some items are basics and others are just luxury or fun dog accessories.
The Doggy Essentials
Food and Water Bowls
If you’ve got a dog you’ll need bowls for the dog’s food and water. Mid size to large dogs have a habit of moving their food bowls around the room as they eat. This can make a lot of noise. A sturdy plastic bowl with a rubber lining on the bottom can be useful as well. The rubber on the bottom prevents the bowl from sliding around as it tends to when big dogs eat.
Leash and Collar
You’ll need a leash and a collar. These can be as simple or as elaborate as you’d like as long as they are appropriate for the size and strength of your dog. The collar needs a tag to help ID your dog.
Optional Dog Accessories
There are so many options to choose from. Here are some option dog accessories that we like: gravity refillable water dishes and collapsible food bowls.
Dog booties do a good job of protecting the sensitive pads of a dog’s feet from rough terrain, rocky areas, and hot pavement. This is great for those who live in desert environments like Phoenix or Las Vegas. The summer pavement can become too hot for your dog’s paws. In the winter, same thing but with salt on the pavement damaging your dog’s paws.
